If you hear a rapid ticking sound from the engine the rocker arms and valve lifters may be broken or loose. At this time the exhaust valve and intake valve will not operate normally which will limit the performance and stability of the engine. It is recommended that you replace it in time.

Before installing rocker arms or valve lifters it is usually necessary to soak them in lubricating oil for a period of time to ensure that they will run smoothly and minimize wear. The amount of time to soak them in lubricant varies from case to case but it is usually recommended to soak them for at least a couple of hours preferably overnight.

Here’s how: You can place your rocker arms or lifters in a container and soak them in the lubricant. Ensure that the lubricant completely covers the rocker arms or lifters and agitate them periodically during the soaking period to ensure that the lubricant is able to fully penetrate all parts. After the soak is complete remove the rocker arms or lifters and wipe them clean with a clean cloth. They should also be inspected for any damage or wear and make sure they match your car model and engine specification before fitting.

Note that soaking time may not be necessary if a fully synthetic lubricant is being used as this lubricant typically has better flow and penetration and will lubricate the rocker arms or lifters more quickly.
