Description
In 2010, the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon formed a collaboration with Nike to offer hospitalized children and teenagers the opportunity to design their own customized shoes. One of the products from this initiative was the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Doernbecher’ 2010, which was designed by Cole Johanson. Its red leather upper has a diamond grip pattern that spells out ‘COLE’ and behind the heel tab are references to his favorite foods, spaghetti and chocolate. Additionally, the shoe has black leather details and a midsole with an Air unit for responsive cushioning. ‘Strength and Courage’ lettering is inscribed on the insole, referring to Cole’s lymphoma.
